Peter Van Minnen’s roots as an artist go right back to his early pre-teen years when he liked nothing more than a good scribble and was lost to the world once connected to a crayon, brush or pencil. His dream then was to one day become an artist. His mother encouraged him and sent him to art schools on a part-time basis whenever it was affordable. She is herself an instinctive artist and would direct the young Van by doing his school art projects for him… Then came his years as a student at the University of Cape Town, when he enrolled at the School of Art and Architecture.
He then practised for a time as an architect, still drawing and painting, until he decided, quite suddenly, to change direction and to train as a practitioner of Body Stress Release, becoming the first person to practice the technique in the UK, in 1993. (see www.bodystressrelease-uk.co.uk)
This has given him more time to work as an artist, and he threw himself into painting in oils in 1998.
Since then he has had several successful exhibitions and commissions.
Peter is particularly interested in the spiritual nature of humanity and the world, and believes that the angels are for us humans, a bridge to the spirit world, and that they are always close to us.
His work is seen as visionary, he uses pure colour wherever possible, although he is perfectly capable of producing more naturalistic work.
Peter believes in the positive, transformative power of art on the individual and on society.
He believes that true art is a gateway to higher realms, reminding us of our spiritual origins.
